Former NYC house of David Rockefeller is listed for $57.5M

A grand Manhattan mansion that long belonged to a deceased banking tycoon has been up for sale.

A house on East 65th Street with debaucherous proportions both inside and out is up for sale for $57.5 million.

The house, which was owned for roughly 70 years by investment banker David Rockefeller, who died in 2017 at age 101, and his wife Peggy Rockefeller, who died in 1996, is being sold by Doug Band and Lily Band, who served as Bill Clinton’s longtime political advisors, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In 2018, The Bands paid $20 million for the roughly 100-year-old, 40-foot-wide property, $12.5 million less than what it had originally demanded.

According to the journal, they recently finished a four-year makeover of the house that required digging beneath it to raise the roof on the garden level, which now has ceilings that are 2 feet higher than they were before.

The five-story Colonial Revival building has 3,500 square feet of outdoor area in addition to its overall size of 12,500 square feet. (There is a front yard and a backyard.)

Eight bedrooms, a yellow-wallpapered drawing room, a living room with original knotted wood paneling, a stylish mirror dining room, three kitchens (one for family use and two for serving), a sports court, a sports simulator, a 220-inch movie screen, a sauna, and a skylit spiral staircase are all located across the area. That’s not all, either.

“Thoughtful considerations include a modernized, high-speed elevator that services all five floors; brand new, top-of-the-line A/V, mechanical and HVAC systems; and two dedicated staff rooms, each with a full bathroom,” according to the listing, which is held by Adam Modlin of Modlin Group.
