Visit Kyiv – City of architecture and churches, ample open space and very majestic

We visited Ukraine’s capital during a sunny October weekend, our first foray into the former Soviet bloc, and were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do there. Amazing architecture and cathedrals, plenty of open space, and few other tourists (Kiev definitely feels like a developing tourist destination).

Did we also mention how affordable Kiev is? We ate, drank, and took public transportation all weekend and spent less than £100 (115 Euros) across three days.

Here’s our guide to making the most of a long weekend in Kiev, one of Eastern Europe’s oldest cities, from one of our most memorable European trips:

1. Independence Square

2. St Sophia’s Cathedral

3. Golden Gate

4. Funicular to Volodymyrskya Hill

5. People’s Friendship Arch

6. St Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery

7. St Andrew’s Church
